A tiny, rice-grained size chip that can help bring your pet back home if they ever get lost.
It only takes a moment for your pet to break away from their leash or bolt out of the door. If your pet doesn’t have permanent identification, it makes it harder to find them when they’re lost. Though tags and collars are helpful, microchipping is a better pet identification method since it’s permanent. Microchipping is the best way to help your pet make it back home to you.
A microchip is a small, rice grain-sized device that stores your contact information, which is recovered when a handheld scanner detects its radiowaves. The microchip is placed under your pet’s skin. A small needle is typically used to implant the device. Since microchips don’t work with a power source or have any moving parts, one microchip lasts your pet’s lifetime. The device is safe for your furry friend because it’s designed to be compatible with their body.
The process is similar to your pet getting vaccinated. We’ll use a sterile syringe to implant the microchip under the skin between your pet’s shoulder blades. It’s a quick procedure over in moments so your pet feels little pain or discomfort. Over time, the microchip will become encased in the tissue, which means it will not move around the body. Once the microchip is implanted, we’ll help you register it with a pet recovery database. This is an important step to ensure your contact information is associated with your pet’s microchip, so they can be returned to you. After it is implanted, you won’t need to worry about the microchip unless your pet gets lost. If your pet is lost and they’re brought into a shelter or veterinary office, the staff will use a scanner to detect your pet’s microchip. If your contact information is up-to-date, they’ll contact you to pick up your pet and bring them home.
